Egg Freezing
In recent years, significant advancements have been made in egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation. The preferred method for this process is vitrification, in which eggs are rapidly frozen with minimal risk of intracellular damage. The procedure for obtaining the oocytes is similar to the first half of an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle; however, the collected eggs are cryopreserved prior to fertilization. When patients elect to use their eggs, our laboratory specialists can thaw them for fertilization with sperm from a male partner or donor. Once fertilized, the embryos develop normally and should have a high chance for successful pregnancy.
Oncofertility
Each year, thousands of individuals are diagnosed with cancer during their childbearing years. While modern medicine gives young adults a better chance of surviving cancer than ever before, treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery can negatively impact fertility. We offer a number of fertility preservation options on an expedited timeline for patients scheduled to undergo cancer treatment, including sperm, egg, and embryo cryopreservation.
Embryo Banking
Embryo banking involves freezing one or more embryos for future use. The process is similar to the first half of an in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle, where eggs are removed from a woman's ovary and combined with sperm in the laboratory to form embryos. Patients can use sperm from a male partner or a donor. These embryos are then cryopreserved until ready for use. Patients can also opt for preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). This advanced testing can screen for genetic risk factors and ensure that healthy embryos are available for future use.
